Since we tested the second-generation model back in 2020, Bang & Olufsen’s sophisticated, silky-sounding Beosound A1 has been a reliable addition to our list of the best Bluetooth speakers. The third-generation Beosound A1 has finally been released by the Danish company after much anticipation.
With a circular shape and 360-degree sound output from its elegant, pearl-blasted aluminum shell, the Beosound A1 3rd Gen is still a small, portable speaker. The design is completed with a waterproof leather strap that is available in three different finishes: eucalyptus green, honey tone, and natural aluminum.
B&O A1 3rd Gen Promises Deeper Bass and Richer Sound with Upgraded Audio Tech
In order to provide a rich, room-filling sound from a compact, go-anywhere form, B&O claims that the A1 3rd Gen features the largest woofer in its class, delivering deeper bass with a Bass SPL of 64dB.The speaker’s woofer and tweeter are powered by two 30-watt Class D amplifiers.
We’re eager to hear how the sound quality has evolved and can rival the finest available today because we were huge fans of the A1 Gen 2 spacious, authoritative, and seamless presentation.
With an IP67 dust and waterproof classification, the A1 should withstand most weather conditions and outdoor activities. It also features a three-microphone array with FarField technology for crystal-clear audio communications, which is helpful when using the A1 as a speakerphone at home or at work.
Additionally, we have confirmation that the A1 3rd Gen’s USB-C connector is capable of charging the device and playing music from a source device, such a laptop. A fabric USB-C to USB-C connection is also included in the package with the speaker.
The third-generation A1 no longer integrates the Amazon Alexa smart-control, in contrast to the A1 2nd Gen. Additionally, there is no indication that Auracast will be supported in the future, despite the fact that several new Bluetooth portables, like the recently released five-star JBL Charge 6, have implemented this technology.
However, the A1 does offer stereo pairing between two Beosound A1 3rd Gen speakers and even between a 3rd Gen speaker and an older 2nd Gen A1 speaker. It also supports multipoint connections up to two devices. It’s admirable that B&O understands that many customers would prefer to keep their old speaker rather than replace it with a new one.

Beosound A1 3rd Gen Sets Sustainability Benchmark as World’s First Cradle to Cradle Certified Bluetooth Speaker
Another important component of the Beosound A1 3rd Gen’s design is its lifespan. According to B&O, this Bluetooth speaker is the first in the world to receive Cradle to Cradle Certification (Bronze Level), indicating that it was made with the intention of being repairable, upgradeable, and maintainable. B&O provides a five-year guarantee for the speaker, the A1 3rd Gen has an enhanced 10-year lifespan in its first lifecycle, and its battery can be replaced at any time through the official Bang & Olufsen shop.
The A1 speaker is replete with references to the circular approach, which seeks to reduce waste and prolong the life of materials. According to Mads Kogsgaard Hansen, Head of Product Circularity & Portfolio Planning at Bang & Olufsen, the team has focused more on lowering waste materials overall, even though the A1 hasn’t seen many major changes in the third iteration in terms of visual design, usability, and listening habits .why should we fix something that is not broken?
It’s often a younger customer who is buying this product, states Hansen. And this demographic is showing more keen interest in circularity and more conscious consumption, and trying to understand the consequences of their purchases. Accordingly, he states that we are starting to implement recirculated elements in the A1.
As you can see, the aluminum dome and the tiny aluminum lock on the leather strap are made in part from recycled materials, a mix of post-industrial and post-consumer recycled resources. The main structural components of the cabinet are made of 70% post-consumer recycled plastic, and the same is true for the inside plastic components.

B&O Beosound A1 3rd Gen Launches with Sustainability Focus and Premium Price Tag
When we speak about being more sustainable, the best we can do as an industry is to make sure that we get more value out of the materials and resources we do utilize and extract and delay the point at which they become garbage that has to be recycled, right? Thus, there is undoubtedly a problem facing the sector.
The price of the Bang & Olufsen Beosound A1 3rd Gen is now £299/€349. When we receive a review sample, we’re eager to see how the new B&O speaker compares to its outstanding competitors from JBL, Dali, Bose, and more.
